How it works
When you select an image, the browser decodes its header (and, for JPEG, its metadata) locally. The pixel dimensions come straight from the decoded image, file size from the file itself, and the aspect ratio is computed by dividing width by height and simplifying.
What the numbers mean
- Width × height - the pixel grid of the image.
- Megapixels - width × height ÷ 1,000,000.
- Aspect ratio - the proportional shape, simplified (e.g. 3:2).
- Print size - pixels ÷ PPI gives inches. At 300 PPI a 6000 × 4000 image prints at 20 × 13.3 inches.
Why check dimensions?
Knowing your image size helps you decide whether a photo is sharp enough to print large, whether it will pass a stock-seller’s minimum, or whether you can crop in without losing quality. It is also useful before resizing for the web or social media.

Can I check multiple images at once?

Does this tool work for screenshots?
Yes. Screenshots are usually PNG files, which decode in the same way.
What resolution do I need for a large print?
As a rule of thumb 300 PPI is ideal for close viewing, 150 PPI is fine for large posters viewed from a distance.
