Difference is how far the image’s ratio sits from each format, shown as a percentage of the image’s own ratio. The closest match is highlighted - that is the crop or frame shape to pick.
How it works
The tool divides the pixel width by the height to get the ratio, then reduces it to the simplest whole-number pair with the greatest common divisor - so 4000 × 3000 becomes 4:3. It then compares that value with each common format and reports the percentage difference.

What does an aspect ratio of 3:2 mean?

Why does my photo not match a common format exactly?

What does landscape or portrait mean?
Landscape is wider than it is tall, portrait is taller than it is wide, and square is equal on both sides. Orientation is simply decided by comparing width and height.
